We are happy to announce that Kal Cahoone has signed with helmet room recordings for a new release to be out sometime later this summer or early fall. We will be sure to keep you posted on that as we have more info. We are very pleased to not only be acting as label for Kal, but also to be working with her on production of her new tracks, which can you can hear by checking out her myspace page right here.

These first tracks feature violin and vocals from Elin Palmer as well as upright bass from Julie Davis of Bela Karoli

Some of you may know Kal from her other work in the group Tarantella with John Rumley of Slim Cessna's Auto Club and Hush, and famous local producer Bob Ferbrache. Since 2000, Kal has recorded with Lilium, and has also appeared doing back-up vocals for locals Munly and Roger Green. Kal has been onstage to play keyboards for Woven Hand and has appeared with The Denver Gentlemen.

Next up: A long overdue record from Orbit Service is in the works, hopefully completed sometime later this summer or fall as well. This record being produced by Kim G. Hansen of the Danish group Antenne and features an entirely new band lineup. To hear the new sounds, visit Orbit Service here.

In the studio we have 2 finished records from Golden Death Music just waiting to be mastered, so look for those to appear in the coming weeks... We'll let you know as we get them out there.

And finally, Twist & Shout Records in Denver has invited helmet room recordings to handle audio production and taping of their in-store performances and we are super excited to be a part! The first in-store takes place this Friday, May 16- here is some info about that direct from Twist & Shout:

STEVE EARLE
A VERY SPECIAL IN-STORE PERFORMANCE
MAY 15 AT 6 P.M.

Twist & Shout is very please to announce a free in-store performance by Steve Earle on Friday, May 15 at 6 p.m., in celebration of his upcoming album Townes (to be released 5/12). Fans can pre-purchase Townes at Twist & Shout and get a poster as well as a wristband that will guarantee entry into this exclusive event. KBCO will be here to broadcast the event live on the air.

Steve Earle’s new album Townes, is his highly anticipated follow up to the Grammy Award winning album Washington Square Serenade. The 15-song set is comprised of songs written by Earle’s friend and mentor, the late singer-songwriter, Townes Van Zandt. The songs selected for Townes were the ones that meant the most to Earle and the ones he personally connected to. Some of the selections chosen were songs that Earle has played his entire career (“Pancho and Lefty,” “Lungs,” “White Freightliner Blues”). He learned the song “(Quicksilver Daydreams of) Maria” directly from Van Zandt, and taught himself “Marie and Rake” specifically for making this record. Earle recorded the New York sessions solo and then added the other instruments later on in order to preserve the spirit of Van Zandt’s original solo performances to the best of his recollection. The track “Lungs” was produced and mixed by Dust Brothers’ John King and features Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine/The Nightwatchman on electric guitar. The album also features Earle’s wife Allison Moorer. Townes will also be available as a deluxe 2-CD set as well as double Limited Edition 180 gram vinyl.

Come down to Twist & Shout to pre-purchase Steve Earle’s new album Townes (on either format) and receive a poster and a wristband that will guarantee entry into this very special and exclusive event!
